I love gifts, don’t you? There’s so much fun in picking out that special something for a loved one and watching their eyes light up when they open it. And to be the one on the receiving end of a gift? Ahhhhhhh …. it just fills your heart with warmth and love …….. and joy.
JOY. Someone once said JOY stands for “Jesus, Others, Yourself”. I believe that because I see it at work in the Women’s Service Group at The Rising. This group meets once a month for the soul purpose of JOY – to glorify Jesus, to serve Others, and to encourage Yourself with friendships of godly women.
The Women’s Service Group meets every fourth Monday. There’s lots of conversation, stories and laughter, as well as prayer for people who are sick and those who are just struggling with life. The group works on a different project each month that gives them the opportunity to get to know each other better while they work side by side to bring joy to another person. In April, the women made teacup flowers for the ladies who reside at Stonegate Rehabilitation Center in honor of Mother’s Day. In June, they made slipper socks for the men at Stonegate in honor of Father’s Day. The women have made knot blankets for people in the hospital or recovering from an illness/surgery; they’ve put together college care boxes full of healthy snacks for Freshmen heading off to college; they help with children’s school supplies in the fall; and at Christmas this group puts on a Santa’s workshop where parents can leave their children in capable hands and have a night for themselves to shop, while kids have a fun evening and make Christmas gifts for Mom and Dad. These women are always looking for new fun projects to do that will encourage and bring joy to someone’s heart.
This month the Women’s Service Group is changing things up a bit. This month they’re having a “Girls’ Night Out!!” and you’re invited! It’s on Wednesday, June 24th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Bring a dish to pass, and everyone will have dinner together at 6:00 p.m. The movie “Unconditional” will be shown at 7:00 p.m. It’s a great time to get to know other ladies of the church and build new friendships. Come on out and bring a friend for a relaxing and fun evening together.
